“Psychotherapy” comes from two ancient Greek words: “psyche” (meaning breath, spirit, or soul) and “therapeia” (healing). The most foundational definition, then, is “soul healing,” and this is the definition I tend to come back to. Psychotherapy is a process that uses a relational container, between therapist and client, to reconnect a person to their “soul” - or the natural, unimpeded flow of their life. You could also call this gaining perspective, becoming more secure, or living more equally in the body and the mind. Different therapists use different techniques to help facilitate this, but the idea is to create a space based on trust, compassion, and curiosity, to help loosen up stuck places. Letting oneself be fully seen by another - even in your darkest places - can be a powerful medicine.

If you found your way here, chances are that you could benefit from therapy. Many people seek out therapy due to mental health issues impacting their daily functioning, relationship issues, destructive habits, difficulty grieving or making life transitions, and many other reasons. Others simply find therapy to be a useful tool for creating a meaningful life and deepening awareness, no matter how functional they may be. A more important question might be: is this particular therapist for me? If you are resonating with what you see on my website, or are curious to learn more, we can book a consultation to further assess our compatibility.

I see clients as often as twice per week. For most clients, beginning at a once-per-week frequency is ideal. This allows us to establish a foundation of trust, set goals, and solidify therapy as a part of your life. After a few months, you may consider decreasing your frequency if you’ve seen consistent progress or have met your goals.

I offer in-office sessions on Mondays and Thursdays at 179 Carlton Street. All other weekdays, sessions are held online. From April to October, I also offer sessions outdoors at Bickford Park.
-
If you need support between sessions, consider calling the Distress Centre helpline (for those in Toronto who need emotional support) or the Suicide Crisis helpline at 988 if you are struggling with suicidal ideation.
For current clients who need more specific resources, feel free to reach out to me.

The effects of psychotherapy vary greatly from person to person, depending on several factors. Some people begin noticing changes right away, but for many people it takes years. The compatibility between you and your therapist, the severity of your situation, as well as your dedication and openness to the work, can greatly impact the outcome.

Our sessions will last 50 minutes. You can also book a “comprehensive session” for 1.5 hours, which can be ideal for clients who have an extensive mental health history, or who would simply prefer more time.
-
One 50 minute session is $150. A comprehensive (1.5 hour) session is $225. (Note: psychotherapy services are exempt from HST as of June 2024).

Sessions must be cancelled with 48 hours notice, except in case of emergencies. The full fee is charged for late cancellations.

Unfortunately, RP’s (registered psychotherapists) are not covered by OHIP. RP’s are usually covered by insurance plans.

I always begin with a consultation before booking a first session with new clients. Consultations are free of charge, held via video and last up to 30 minutes. They are meant to give us a chance to get to know each other and see if we are a proper fit for longterm work. You can email me at jordandayweir@gmail.com to book your consultation, or book directly by clicking the button below.
